The sab group have claimed Aysgarth School organised the illegal hare hunt

A North Yorkshire school has been criticised after reportedly taking pupils on a field trip to watch illegal hare hunting in action before masked saboteurs showed up.
Photographs shared from Calder Valley Sabs show a group of young schoolboys on what appears to be a ‘field trip’ to spectate in the “bloodbath illegal hunt” in North Yorkshire.
Calder Valley Sabs reportedly caught an illegal hare hunt in action on Wednesday (February 28) in Newton le Willows. The sab group have claimed Bedale-based Aysgarth School had organised the trip and taken pupils out of the classroom to witness the hunt. It has not been confirmed by the school at this time if the trip had been organised by them but Yorkshire Live has contacted the school for comment.
A spokesperson for the sabs group said: “Hunt saboteurs from Calder Valley, Sheffield and East Yorkshire Coast intercepted the hunt at around 2.15pm, when the beagles were seen chasing a hare in a large circle just north of the school, encouraged by the huntsman and watched on by a teacher and his pupils.
“Knowing they’d been caught red-handed, the hunt hurriedly proceeded to gather up their dogs and pack up, but not before another hare bolted just mere metres from the pack. Total chaos ensued as the beagles gave chase and the huntsman was disinterested in getting them back under control. It was left to the hunt saboteurs to round up the dogs and return them, making sure the criminal gang finally packed up and headed back to their kennels at Catterick Garrison.”
They added: “It is utterly beyond belief that Aysgarth School thought it was acceptable to not only host this hunt at the school, but to also take a group of young children to watch the illegal hare hunt take place. Teaching school pupils to break the Hunting Act – what on earth were they thinking?
“We are calling on the school to never again host a hunt, including the Catterick Beagles and the fox killing Bedale Hunt.”
YorkshireLive have approached Aysgarth School for a comment.
