Stag hunters charged

17th September 2026

Message from Mendip Hunt Sabs

Martin Watts and Chris Gibbons, huntsman and master of the Quantock Stag Hounds, have been charged with Hunting Act offences as a result of footage obtained by our sabs and North Dorset Hunt Sabs on 16th March.

On this day, the same stag was chased for over five hours until he became trapped behind a fence.

Horrifying footage filmed by one of our sabs showed the stag’s final moments as he was too exhausted to jump the fence and was then shot.

This is the first stag hunting case to be brought to court in many years and shows that stag hunters can no longer act with impunity in their incessant flouting of the law.

Please consider a donation to our fundraiser to help us fight fox and stag hunting in Somerset and beyond. www.paypal.me/mendiphuntsabs or buy us a coffee here: www.ko-fi.com/mendiphuntsabs. Thank you. 🙏

  1. These people if you can call then that are the scum of the earth and want locking up. Fines for filth like this is just ridiculous they can well afford it and then after they are at it again murdering the innocent. I would like to see these evil bastards chased by a lion for hours on end and then ripped apart this is what scum like this deserve. WHAT the hell is this government doing about all this hunting with packs of dogs???????????????????????????????????
