Multiple members of the Warwickshire Hunt charged

Message from West Midlands Hunt Sabs

As reported in our previous article former Warwickshire huntsman Will Goffe has been charged with Common Assault. His replacement, former Warwickshire Whipper-In Jack Weedon has already accepted a Caution under the Public Order Act.

We can now add to that list with former hunt director and joint master Olivia Forsyth who has been charged with Willful Obstruction of the Highway following an incident towards the end of last season where the busy Fosseway was blocked and brought to a complete standstill.

Finally hunt member Harry Sawyer has also been charged with Wilful Obstruction of the Highway for a separate incident also towards the end of last season.

That’s the current huntsman, former huntsman, former master and Harry Sawyer all on charges or with a Caution.

All of these incidents happened on public roads, two separate obstruction charges and the Goffe / Weedon incidents happening within minutes of each other on the same stretch of road that was being hunted on and held up by the hunt.

It could be argued that none of these incidents would have happened if the original CPN against the Warwickshire Hunt was still in place and had not been withdrawn by Warwickshire Police.

As a reminder, the CPN was served on them due to their consistent anti-social behaviour on public roads over a prolonged period of time.

What it also shows is that the Warwickshire Hunt have not learnt any lessons from the CPN incident and still have complete disregard for the law and complete disregard for members of the public and other road users. They clearly still thought themselves protected and untouchable.

The Warwickshire Hunt were described by a serving Warwickshire Police officer on Channel 4 News as an “organised crime group”. These charges are a reflection of that.

Lets also not forget that the hunt Chair is Sam Butler who also happens to be the Vice Chair of the “future for hunting” campaign.

The hunting community should perhaps be worried about that campaign given he clearly hasn’t got his own house in order. In fact it was Butler who in the previous hunting season led a campaign of false allegations being made to Warwickshire Police about our group.

This resulted in the police being called almost every meet towards the end of last season.

Butler may have thought that he was being clever but when you’re the head of a group of people who commit multiple offenses every hunt meet don’t be surprised when those offenses start getting looked into.
