For the Animals: A Tribute to Animal Rights Activist Keith Mann

16th March 2026

Keith was from Rochdale and spent most of his time fighting for animal rights in and around the Manchester area.

Keith Mann (1966–2025) devoted his life to advocating for animal and human liberation from all forms of injustice. Keith worked tirelessly to expose and alleviate cruelty, even at the cost of his own liberty.

He saved literally thousands of animals from horrendous fates at the hands of vivisectors, hunters, the meat and dairy industry, and from exploitation wherever it occurred.

His activism led to two prison sentences as an animal liberation front activist. The first sentence in 1994 of 14 years, reduced to 11 years on appeal, was the longest of its kind at the time.

In June 1993, after 20 months in prison, Keith executed a long-established plan to escape. He spent almost a year on the run before being recaptured at an animal sanctuary in Sussex.

The second prison sentence in 2005 of 18 months was for a raid on Wickham Laboratories where documents were retrieved that exposed the lie that cosmetic experiments on animals had been banned.

This short tribute film was created in honour of Keith and the animals he dedicated his life to. It was first shown at his funeral on 9th February 2026.

Beginning with the story of the first rabbit Keith rescued as a child, the film reflects the spirit that guided the rest of his life — standing up for animals, exposing injustice and continuing to speak out even in the face of vilification and imprisonment.

This YouTube channel has been created to preserve Keith’s voice and legacy. In time it will host documentaries, interviews, talks and archive footage featuring Keith, and other material connected with his life and activism. So please subscribe now if you would like to see more
