Message from Northants Hunt Saboteurs

Today the Cottesmore Hunt were exposed AGAIN for their hiring of masked up terrier men with shovels and terriers, this time at their meet in Marefield, Leicestershire.
Sabs approached Peake’s Covert in Burrough on the Hill just before second horses and stumbled upon the four masked up terrier men (pictured below) and as they saw sabs, they scarpered as quick as they could to get away from the scene. So fast in fact that they actually left behind one of their terriers (pictured below) such was the panic that they were in to escape with sabs closing in on them.
What sabs found at the scene was a big hole that had been dug right next to a known badger sett with the excavated earth likely to have been used to fill in the sett, conveniently just as huntsman Sam Jones was second horsing and about to hunt Peake’s Covert which is next to the sett.
This tactic is used to stop any hunted fox that leaves a Covert to go to ground and forces the hunted animal to keep running. The other option is that they had marked a fox to ground in the sett using their terrier and were trying to dig the fox out. Either way this was an act of wildlife crime and sabs had arrived just in time to stop it!
An hour or so later, our small foot team caught a fox fleeing from Peake’s Covert with hounds giving chase a couple of minutes later on the same line that the fox had taken.
Both of these incidents were reported to Leicestershire police with one officer attending at the end of the day and headed into the meet to question the Cottesmore on the footage that he’d been shown by sabs.
This was a positive move from the officer who attended and that is what we like to see.
