In June 2025, Lancashire Badger Group reported damage to a badger sett in the Carnforth area.
Following an investigation by Lancaster, Morecambe, & Fylde Rural Task Force, on 28th November 2025 Stephen Metcalfe of Barbon was convicted of interfering with badger setts at Lancaster Magistrates Court.
He was fined £875 and ordered to pay costs and a victim surcharge.
Badger persecution is a national wildlife crime priority.

Lancaster man, 65, fined for interfering with badger setts

A Lancaster man has been convicted of an offence under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992 following an investigation by Lancaster, Morecambe, and Wyre’s Rural Task Force.
Stephen Metcalfe, 65, pleaded guilty at Lancaster Magistrates Court to interfering with badger setts.
Metcalfe was fined £750 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £300 victim surcharge.
Badger Persecution is one of the UK National Wildlife crime priorities and this case highlights the benefits of a multi-agency approach to tackle the issue.

Lancashire Badger Group welcomed the guilty verdict against Metcalfe, and would like to thank Lancashire Police for supporting this case to court.

THIS COUNTRY IS A LAUGH ALL THESE EVIL LAW BREAKERS DON’T GIVE A STUFF THEY JUST CARRY ON, SO PRISON FOR ALL CAUGHT BREAKING THE LAW AT LEAST 10 YEARS. THIS GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO GET ITS ACT TOGETHER AND FAST.
