24th June 2025

Five men have been charged in connection with a night poaching investigation.

The charges relate to an incident on January 29 near Cholderton, Amesbury, where men in camouflage with dogs were spotted in a field.

Those charged under the Night Poaching Act 1828 are Sean McWhinnie, 44, of Lizard Close, Southampton; William Goddard, 41; and Billy Goddard, 21, both of Norbury Gardens, Hamble-Le-Rice.

Also charged are Jesse Dennard, 26, of Darenth Wood Road, Darenth, Kent, and Riley Dennard, 18, of Billet Hill, Ash, Kent.

Mr McWhinnie and the Dennards are due to appear at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on July 23, while the Goddards are scheduled to appear on August 8.

Night poaching, which typically involves the illegal hunting of game at night using dogs, remains a criminal offence under the 19th-century legislation.
