Message from Cheshire Police Rural Crime Team
Yesterday afternoon we arrested an adult female under suspicion of:
Badger Baiting contrary to sections one and three of the Protection of Badgers Act 1992 & Causing Unnecessary Suffering to a Protected Animal (In this case Dogs) contrary to section four of the Animal Welfare Act 2006.
The suspect had proved a bit tricky to track down, but after making enquiries at addresses in Bury and Bolton we eventually successfully arrested her at an address in Liverpool. She was taken to Runcorn Custody Facility where she was interviewed in relation to the offences. The suspect’s van was also seized for further examination and remains with us.
Badgers Baiting is a particularly unpleasant activity that involves the digging out and killing of badgers in their setts. Often both the dogs and badgers suffer severe injuries often proving fatal to the badger. Badgers are protected in law and crimes against them are a current National Wildlife Crime Priority.
As with this suspect, anyone who decides to engage in such activities should expect to find themselves in one of the forces three newly refurbished custody suits.
This suspect has now been released under investigation, the investigation remains very much active.
We would always welcome information from the public that may assist us in tracking down wildlife crime offenders, you can provide it to us via 101, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers via 0800 555 111.

LOCK THE BITCH UP. MAKES YOU LAUGH TALKING ABOUT BADGERS BEING A PROTECTED SPECIES YET THEY STILL HAVE BADGER CULLS. THIS IS DISGRACEFUL AS IT HAS BEEN PROVEN THAT BADGERS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR TB IN CATTLE ITS THE FILTHY CONDITIONS SOME FARMERS KEEP THEIR CATTLE IN AND THIS HAVE BEEN PROVEN AND SHOWN ON TV YET THIS GOVERNMENT THINK THERE SHOULD BE BADGER CULLS. I THINK IT’S THE HUMAN RACE THAT NEEDS A CULL.
