Message from Northants Hunt Saboteurs
Leicester Magistrates court – Tuesday 29th April 2025
This morning three Northants hunt sabs arrived at Leicester Magistrates Court to give evidence in a case against hired thugs in the employ of the Cottesmore Hunt.
Andrew Kean was facing charges of (1) Assault by beating (2) Common Assault (3) Assault by beating.
The second defendant, Barrington Nurse-Phillips was charged with (1) Common assault (2) Common assault. The charges resulted from the actions taken by hunt stewards acting for the Cottesmore fox hunt at their opening meet at Knossington on 29th October 2024.
The defendants had maintained a ‘not guilty’ plea up until the morning of the trial. The sabs from Northampton arrived at court ready to give their evidence. After meeting the CPS prosecutor and preparing themselves for their day in court, the sabs sat and waited in the witness room for their call to give evidence.
The wait was prolonged as the CPS barrister returned to the waiting sabs to inform them that the cheerleader of the Cottesmore hunt’s thugs Andrew Kean was considering changing his plea to guilty on terms that he obviously hoped would allow him to continue his role as the ‘Sheriff’ of hunting in the shires. Unimpressed by this pathetic and mealy-mouthed grovelling, the sabs who fell victim of this organised hunt violence firmly rejected the deal.
Andrew Kean is the self-proclaimed organiser of gang thuggery on behalf of the illegal activities of fox hunts. His co – defendant and sidekick Barrington Nurse – Phillips had equally seemed to baulk at defending his actions on behalf of the Cottesmore fox hunt and agreed to a ‘guilty’ plea. Not impressed with this risible and pathetic last-minute plea of false guilt, the prosecution returned to court. What followed was an illuminating view into the psyche of the so-called ‘hard men’ who behind their masks threaten and carry out acts of violence against those opposed to bloodsports.
With those who actively oppose hunting holding their nerve and dignity in court, it was left for the delusional bully Andrew Kean to try and save his own neck and tattered reputation. This, he was clearly unable to do instead agreeing to a two-year restraining order and a ban from attending any Cottesmore hunt meets. He also must not approach any of the victims on any public footpath or public space anywhere. Barrington Nurse – Phillips also left court with a criminal conviction after being recruited by Andrew Kean to threaten violence against sabs.
The Cottesmore fox hunt have for a long time used paid thugs to attack and threaten sabs. Andrew Kean has also prided himself on being the one that everyone should fear. However, when push came to shove, he exhibited the same cowardly and self-serving attitude common to all those in the hunting world. When faced with the reality of justice they shrink like the fading ghosts of the bloody past they truly are.
The sabs travelled home from court after a day drawn out by the Cottesmore’s own ‘equaliser’ being unmasked for the loser he really is. Hunting was not on trial today but its violent defence was…..and it has been shown to be the last hiding place of cowardice.
