Message from Cheshire Police Rural Crime Team
PC Marson: On 17th April 2020 we received a report of a dead badger in the Alsager area, that had succumbed to its injuries. Both the RSPCA and the RCT attended and an investigation was launched, as the injuries on the Badger’s body didn’t look consistent with two badgers fighting for instance.
Following a more detailed review of the wounds, it became quite apparent that the injuries were caused by a dog or dogs. This badger suffered a horrific end to its life.
We would ask that if anyone has any information in relation to this incident, or if you know information that could assist us in tackling those responsible for the persecution of badgers, please ring 101 (Please don’t speculate on social media as this could harm the investigation)
Badgers are a protected species in the UK and are covered by a number of laws including the Protection of Badger Act 1992.
