Douglas Batchelor to step down in summer
After eleven successful years as chief executive of the League Against Cruel Sports, Douglas Batchelor is set to retire in July 2011, the charity has announced today.
Mr Batchelor said: “It has been a real privilege to lead the League, working with the League’s longest serving Chairman, John Cooper and the Trustees, to see the organisation go from strength to strength, and from one success to another. I will be leaving the League in the summer, proud of what I have achieved as part of the charity, and confident that The Hunting Act will remain on the statute book and that the League will continue to go from strength to strength.”
The League’s chairman, Prof John Cooper QC, said: “The eleven years of Douglas’ leadership have seen the League utterly transformed. He has moved the organisation from a largely single issue group focused on hunting, to a modern, dynamic campaigning charity concerned with a wide range of issues. We must also not forget that he led the League through the passage of the Hunting Act which finally, after eighty years of campaigning by the League, made hunting with dogs illegal. There can be no greater tribute to his contribution than that.”
The chief executive recruitment process will begin in January.
Good luck to Douglas Batchelor, I personally think he should get somesort of recognition for the work he has done for animals. Not that I am into OBE MBE Lords Ladys Sirs or Madams all a load of rubbish, but it is always sports people entertainment even lolly pop ladies but never anybody from the animal world. Probably because both Cameron and the Windsors all hunt and shoot, hardly fair. Animal people never ask for recognition for what they do as they are not selfish people who only think of themselves. Good Luck Douglas in the future.
